PlanetSide Producer Exchange

Blue’s News
Recently in Blue’s News a story was posted about a producer swap. Here’s is the official word from Dave Georgeson: “PlanetSide is the biggest, baddest game I’ve ever had the privilege to work on … and it’s going to keep going for quite some time. So I’m taking the chance to move from being the Producer to becoming a full-time Senior Designer on the team. Dallas Dickinson is taking my place as Producer while I work more closely with Kevin McCann, Terrence Yee, and the rest of the Design team to create new features for PlanetSide as well as to continuously hone the existing game according to feedback we gain from you folks and the data we gather from our databases.”

This quote brought up tons of “Planetside is pretty graphics and no content” as well as “why dont you all quit whining and just play the game.” Obviously the higher-than-normal monthly subscription fee may have something to do with the players’ tendencies of venting.

My opinion is more on the side of the complainers. The truth is, Planetside may last, but it won’t have anyone who reads messageboards, visits game news websites, or has any kind of extensive prior gaming experience. It may survive into its fourth expansion but no one in the gaming community with half a brain is going to play it. It currently has a content problem, newbies love it, more newbies will sign on, hardcore gamers will leave to try other games. In the end, the newbies will be the voice which propogates a slew of horrid patches and expansions making the game similar to The Sims.
