This is an interesting write up about how Digg requires a lot of work to find any stories of substance. Also worth checking out is this linked article about Mass Amateurisation. Pretty pointed against blogs.
My site is a blog however, I scour a LOT of news sources and only report on a few stories a day. I would like to have user submitted stories like Digg, but the ability to edit them. I think it would be smart of Digg to do more for users profile pages, so that they can create their own edited version of digg. That would be powerful in combating the noise.
